MV Mavi Marmara is a Turkish passenger ship, which is owned and operated by Istanbul Fast Ferries Co. Inc. (Turkish: Istanbul Deniz Otobüleri A.Ş.) (IDO) on the line Sarayburnu, Istanbul-Marmara Island-Avşa Island in the Sea of Marmara. Its name means Blue Marmara. Built at the Golden Gate Shipyard by Turkish Shipbuilding Co. in 1994, the ship has a capacity of 1,080 passengers.[6]

MV Mavi Marmara was involved in the May 31, 2010 Gaza flotilla clash, when Israeli naval commandos boarded the ship in international waters.[7] It was on a mission to break Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip with many diplomats and public figures on board[8][9]. Between 9 and 19 passengers were killed and up to 60 were injured, while at least 10 Israeli soldiers were injured, 2 critically.[10]
