Machida Station (町田駅, Machida-eki) is a railway station on the Yokohama Line in Machida, Tokyo, Japan, operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East).[1]

The station is located adjacent to Machida Station on the Odakyu Odawara Line.

Lines

Machida Station is served by the Yokohama Line from Hachiōji to Higashi-Kanagawa.[2]It is located 22.9 kilometers from the terminus of the line at Higashi-Kanagawa.

Station layout

Machida Station has two island platforms serving four tracks,[2] with the station building located above and perpendicular to the platforms. The station has a "Midori no Madoguchi" staffed ticket office.[1]

History

The station first opened as Haramachida Station (原町田駅) on September 23, 1908.[2] The station was moved 0.4 km toward Hachiōji and renamed Machida on April 1, 1980 to reduce the walking distance between it and Shin-Haramachida Station (now Machida Station) on the Odakyu Odawara Line from 700 m to 300 m.[2][3]

In fiscal 2014, the station was used by an average of 110,233 passengers daily (boarding passengers only), making it the 28th-busiest station operated by JR East.[4]
