Major Mahadevan (Malayalam:മേജര്‍ മഹാദേവന്‍) is a character of an army officer played by the Indian actor Mohanlal in the Major Mahadevan Series of films.[1]

Major Mahadevan is one of the most influential characters to have appeared in this decade of Malayalam cinema. Mohanlal who played Major Mahadevan in Kirthi Chakra (2006) and the same character as Colonel Mahadevan in its sequel Kurukshetra (2008) was given an honorary position as a Lieutenant Colonel of the Territorial Army of India, taking into account his honest portrayal of an army man and the reach the character got through the two movies.[2] A third installment was released in 2010.[3]

In the films, Mahadevan is portrayed as married with one daughter. He lost his wife and daughter in a bomb attack by his enemy. Both wife and daughter appeared in the first film Keerthi Chakra.
