Makiko Hirabayashi

Makiko Hirabayashi (born 1966) is a Japanese jazz pianist based in Denmark.[1] She learned to play piano at the age of four, and subsequently violin at nine. As a teenager, she became interested in jazz and won a fellowship at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. After graduation, she moved to Denmark.[2]

She says that her compositions were influenced by classical, oriental, and Scandinavian music. However, she is not involved with Japanese jazz music which she defines as mainstream-oriented.[3]
