Malonšići
Malonšići (Serbian Cyrillic: Малоншићи) was a tribe in Old Montenegro (historical Zeta). The tribe encompassed parts of what was later Zagarač, Komani and Bjelopavlići.[1] The tribe was mentioned in 1455, Đurađ Crnojević's 1492 charter,[2] and Ottoman defters from 1521,[2] 1523,[2] 1570[3] and 1582/83. As Ottoman subjects, they paid 180 akçe for their meadows in 1521, and 450 akçe in 1523.[2] In the 1523 defter Malonšići was one of seven nahia (territorial unit) of the Sanjak of Montenegro.[4] In the 1570 defter of the Montenegro Vilayet they are mentioned as a nahia having 175 houses, 12 baština, and 5,610 akçe tax.[3] The tribe originated from an Illyrian[1] or Albanian katun (winter pasture), Melenza (Malenza is Albanian for "black hill", thus, Malonšići means "black highlanders" or "black mountaineers", according to P. Šobajić),[1] which received Serbs[1] and had by the 15th century completely Serbicized.[5] They were under the influence of the tribes of Brda, but also under danger from their permeation.[5] They disappeared in the late 16th century.[5] The Bjelopavlići settled in a part of their territory.[5]
