Marc Butan
Marc Butan is an American film producer and the founder of MadRiver Pictures: a global film production, finance, and international sales company.
During Butan's illustrious career, he has served as co-president of Sierra-Affinity,[1] president of Panorama Media,[2] president of 2929 Productions,[3] executive vice president of Production at Lions Gate Entertainment[4] where he was responsible for overseeing all creative elements of film development and in-house film production at the studio; and previous to that he served as chief media and entertainment investment banker for Kidder, Peabody & Co. and Prudential Financial. Throughout this whole period Marc produced and oversaw over 50 productions including George Clooney’s Good Night, And Good Luck which was nominated for six academy awards; James Gray’s We Own The Night; Andrew Dominick’s Killing Them Softly; John Hillcoat’s The Road; Andrew Niccol’s The Host; Criminal starring John C. Reilly and Maggie Gyllenhaal; Godsend starring Robert De Niro, Greg Kinnear, and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos; and Akeelah and the Bee starring Laurence Fishburne, Angela Bassett, and Keke Palmer.
In 2014, Butan formed MadRiver Pictures, to develop, produce, finance, and market three to four star-driven commercial feature films a year in the $15-$50 million range.[5] Since its inception, MadRiver Pictures has produced James Gray's The Last City Of Z starring Charlie Hunnam; Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House starring Liam Neeson; Triple 9 starring Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, and Woody Harrelson; Burr Steers' Pride and Prejudice and Zombies; and most recently James Gray's Ad Astra, starring Brad Pitt.
In summer of 2016, MadRiver Pictures and Vincent Maraval's Insiders joined forces to form an international sales joint venture - IMR international.[6]
Butan is a native of Dayton, Ohio and an alumnus of Ohio State University where he became a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.
