Dillard McCollum High School is a public high school of the Harlandale Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas (USA).

History

McCollum High School was named in honor of Mr. Dillard McCollum, who served in the community as a student, teacher, principal, and superintendent for twenty years.

Frontier Bowl

The Frontier Bowl is one of the oldest and fiercest high school football rivalry games. It pits the Harlandale High School Indians against the McCollum High School Cowboys at Memorial Stadium. The match-up has a 50-year history. The football teams compete each year against one another.[1]

Accomplishments

  • In 1992, Clifton Bennett won the state championship in editorial writing.[2]

McCollum Cowboy Band

The 2014-2015 McCollum Marching Band show is titled "Exodus". The show is based on the motion picture "The Prince of Egypt", and features movements, arranged by John Mehann, of the songs, composed by Hans Zimmer, heard in the movie. The show has 3 movements, movement 1, "Captivity", movement 2, "Supplication", and movement 3, "Deliverance". Drum Majors are Jesse Ramos and Issac Rodriguez. The show earned a Division 1 in the 2014-2015 Marching Band UIL.

In November 1983, the McCollum High School Cowboy Band was selected to compete at the U.I.L. Texas State Marching Band Competition. This was the first time a Southside San Antonio band was selected to compete at such a level. The Head Band Director was Dr. Carl Lobitz and Assistant Band Director was Mr. Carl Albert. The Cowboy Band's marching show consisted of El Tigre, Russian Sailors Dance, and Georgia On My Mind.

The Leadership School

The School of Leadership and Public Service (SLPS) is a magnet program on campus at McCollum High School. The Department Chair is currently Yvonne Valdez. The program requires numerous hours of community service and encourages students to take on leadership positions throughout the school.[4]
