Melangyna novaezelandiae is a hoverfly native to New Zealand.[1] It is a successful pollinator of a large range of plants that are both native and exotic to the New Zealand flora. This hoverfly forages with rapid movements followed by stationary periods. M. novaezelandiae is widespread throughout New Zealand.[1]

It is sometimes referred to as Melangyna novaezealandiae [2] although this name is a less frequently used misspelling of the name in the original species description by Macquart (1855).[3][4]
