Metapterodon is an extinct genus of hyaenodont mammal of the family Hyainailouridae that lived in Africa during the Early Miocene.[1] Fossils of Metapterodon were recovered from the Elisabeth Bay Formation, Namibia and Rusinga Island and Karungu, Kenya.[2]
Taxonomy
The Paleogene species Metapterodon schlosseri and M. markgrafi have been reassigned to Falcatodon and Sectisodon respectively, rendering Metapterodon an exclusively early Miocene genus.[3]
