Michael Crowther (born 1952) is an American zoo director. He was appointed president and chief executive officer of the Indianapolis Zoo in 2002.[1] He was previously president and chief executive officer of the New Jersey State Aquarium.[2] Crowther is known as creator of the Indianapolis Prize,[3] an award for animal conservation.[4]

Life

Crowther was born in 1952 at Bedford, England.[5] He was educated at Bedford Modern School.[1]

Crowther emigrated to Pennsylvania with his family as a teenager.[6] He was appointed president and chief executive officer of the Indianapolis Zoo in 2002.[6] He was previously president and chief executive officer of the New Jersey State Aquarium.,[6] an award for animal conservation.[6]

Crowther serves on the boards of the International Species Information System,[7] the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International,[8] and The National Elephant Center.[9]

Crowther and his wife, Eileen (Sweeney) Crowther, have two daughters, Megan and Erin as well as a cousin Claire
