Michael E. Szymanczyk (born 1949) is the former CEO of Altria Group.[1] Szymanczyk was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Altria Group in March 2008.[1] He served as Chairman, Philip Morris USA from April 2002 – August 2002. Prior to that appointment, he served as President and CEO of Philip Morris USA from November 1997 to April 2002.[1] He was Chief Operating Officer of Philip Morris USA from July 1997 to November 1997.[citation needed] Michael first joined Philip Morris USA as Senior Vice President, Sales, in October 1990.[1]

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in 1971.[2] He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges, the University of Richmond, and the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Engineering Foundation.

Szmanczyk played varsity basketball for Indiana University, and is Chairman of the Dean’s Advisory Council for the school's Kelley School of Business.[1]
