Club career

[edit]

Vitesse

[edit]

Manhoef was born in Beemster and played youth team football with VPV Purmersteijn, AVV Zeeburgia and Amsterdamsche FC before joining Vitesse at 15. He broke into the first team in 2020–21 making his Eredivisie debut in a 2–1 defeat away at Ajax.[3] He scored twice in 20 appearances in 2021–22 as Vitesse reached the European play-offs but lost out to AZ Alkmaar.[2] In 2022–23 Manhoef established himself as one of Vitesse's key players scoring nine goals in 34 appearances and was voted player-of-the-year.[4] In 2023–24, Vitesse suffered a financial crisis and with the team bottom of the league Manhoef was linked with a move to England.[5]

Stoke City

[edit]

Manhoef joined English Championship club Stoke City on 1 February 2024 on a three-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee.[6][7] He made his debut on 10 February 2024 in a 3–1 defeat at Blackburn Rovers.[8] With the team involved in a relegation fight heading towards the final few matches of the 2023–24, Manhoef scored important goals against Plymouth Argyle West Bromwich Albion.[9][10] He also scored twice on the final day of the season in a 4–0 win against Bristol City as Stoke finished in 17th.[11]

International career

[edit]

Manhoef has been capped at youth level for the Netherlands.[12]

Personal life

[edit]

He is the son of retired Surinamese-born Dutch mixed martial artist and kickboxer Melvin Manhoef.[13] Manhoef followed in his father's footsteps taking up kickboxing at a young age before concentrating on football.[14] Born in the Netherlands, Manhoef is of Surinamese and Indonesian descent.[15]
