A mimetic is a term used in [[molecular biology]] to describe a synthetic [[RNA]] molecule which attempts to perform a similar action (i.e. mimic) to the endogenous RNA it replaces<ref>M. Egli and S. M. Gryaznov (2000) Synthetic oligonucleotides as RNA mimetics: 2'-modified RNAs and N3'?P5' phosphoramidates. CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR LIFE SCIENCES. 57 (10): 1440-1456, DOI: 10.1007/PL00000628</ref>. Mimetics may simply be [[siRNA]], or may be synthetic reproductions of endogenous [[microRNA]]. Synthetic RNA that has a complimentary sequence to microRNA is often called an [[antagomir]]. |
