The Ministry of Social Development of Panama (Ministerio de Desarrollo Social, MIDES) is the national institution commissioned to include the impoverished population in economic, cultural and social activities; its goal is to help free these people of dependence on welfare, paternalism and political patronage.

Prior to 2005 it was called the Ministry of Youth, Women and the Family (Ministerio de la Juventud, la Mujer y la Familia, MINJUNFA).[1]
