Montana The Magazine of Western History was created on April 1, 1950 as an informational extension of the Montana Historical Society.[1] The magazine celebrated its 60th anniversary on November 17, 2011.[2]

Inception and Creation

Montana The Magazine of Western History began as a seed of the Montana Historical Society, which was originally called the Historical Society of Montana. The Historical Society was created by a statute of the territorial legislature on February 2, 1865.[3]

Montana the Magazine of Western History, publishes historical articles with a focus on the state of Montana as well as the western United States.[4]
