Mr Rutland (03(97)) was a male osprey who nested on the top of an oak tree, near Rutland Water in England.

Mr Rutland was one of the first chicks to be introduced to England, in 1997, and first nested in 2001; he raised a single chick with an unringed female at a nest on private land, close to the reservoir. He continued to breed every year up to 2014. By 2015, he had migrated some 100,000 miles (160,000 km).[1] He failed to return in 2016 at the age of 18.[2]

Descendants

He raised a total of 32 chicks with three different females. As of May 2015 Mr Rutland had 46[3] grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.[1]

Well known descendants include

  • Blue 24, granddaughter. Intruding female at Cors Dyfi nature reserve.
  • Nora (White 03), daughter. Previous breeding female at Cors Dyfi - she failed to return in the 2013 season.
  • Glesni (Blue 12), granddaughter. Current breeding female at Cors Dyfi.
