The Southern Daily (Chinese: 南方日报; pinyin: Nánfāng Rìbào) is the official Guangdong Communist Party newspaper. The paper was started in 1949.[1] It is sister to the more lively and commercial Southern Metropolis Daily and part of the giant Southern Media Group.[2]

This Guangzhou-based family of papers are known to possess superior reporting and higher level of frankness than many PRC mainstream press outlets.[3]
