Development

Since the release of Ocean's Thirteen in 2007, there have been many ideas about the sequel, but the director of the Ocean's Trilogy, Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney downplayed the possibility of an Ocean's Fourteen or any subsequent sequels due to Bernie Mac's death in 2008,[1] the film was deemed to development hell. However, a new Ocean's Eleven spin-off with an all-female cast led by Sandra Bullock as the sister of George Clooney's Danny Ocean character is in development as of October 2015, and it was conceived by producer Jerry Weintraub, Soderbergh and Clooney. Olivia Milch is to write the screenplay, and Gary Ross is to direct.[2][3] Helena Bonham Carter, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling and Elizabeth Banks were later announced to star in the film.[4]

The title of the spin-off was later revealed to be Ocean's Eight, also known as Ocean's Ocho.[5] In August 2016, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna and Awkwafina confirmed to also join the cast,[6] and Sarah Paulson is also in talks to do so.[7]

Release

The film will be produced by Clooney's Smoke House Pictures.
