Nomenclature[edit]

In classifications that treat both Otukaia and Maurea as subgenera of Calliostoma, the valid name for this species is Calliostoma alertae Marshall, 1995, since Calliostoma (Otukaia) blacki (Dell, 1956) is preoccupied by Calliostoma (Maurea) blacki (Powell, 1950) [1]

This marine species occurs off New Zealand.
