Lakshmi (actress)
Laxmi (sometimes credited as Lakshmi Narayan or just Lakshmi) is a South Indian actress. She is also known for her title role in the Hindi hit film Julie (1975 film) for which she won the Filmfare Best Actress Award.
Career
Her mother was an actress, and her father was also involved in films, and they eased her into films. She was only fifteen when she started acting in films. She became a star in South India in the 1970s and has acted in all four South Indian languages: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Her Malayalam hit Chattakari (1974) was remade in Hindi as Julie (1975) and in Telugu as Miss Julie Prema Katha (1975). After her success in "Julie," however, she didn't make many Hindi films and instead concentrated on doing more South Indian films. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress for the Tamil film Sila Nerangalil Sila Manithargal (1977). When her career as a leading lady ended in the 1980s, she started playing supporting roles as mother. In the 1990s, she played the grandmother role in Jeans (1998). She has also been involved in politics.
Personal life
Laxmi was married three times. Her first husband was Baskar, a marriage that was arranged by her parents when she was seventeen. Her only child, Aishwarya, was born in the early 1970s. Her marriage ended in divorce, and she gained custody of her daughter, who later became an actress in the 1990s. Laxmi fell in love with her Chattakari leading man Mohan, but that relationship ended. While she was shooting "Yen Uyir Kannamma," she and actor-director Sivachandran fell in love and got married. But that marriage ended in divorce.[1]. She was married to her third husband. Her daughter gave birth to a baby girl in the late 1990s, making Laxmi into a real-life grandmother.
She is now hosting a talk show called "achamillai, achamillai". Laxmi is dubbed as the south indian Oprah Winfrey. She has been crictised for advising others on the show as she herself did not have a rosy life. She was also crictised for marrying three times and still be able to live with dignity.
The trivia here is Aishwarya and Laxmi never see eye to eye this is what Aishwarya said aboout her mother recently. Aishwarya said, "I ran away from home in my childhood itself. I hated my mother as she married Shiva Chandran. I don't know how my father looks, I saw him only when I turned 21. I call Shiva Chandran as 'Sir'. How can I call him Dad? But Shiva Chandran turns up for every small problem I face. That's the love he has on me. Later I got married but kicked out with my 2 year old Anena. She is now 12 years old. I'm no way inclined to bring her into films. I want her to be an educated girl unlike me. I want to see her with many degrees. Coming to me, am now playing some variety roles. I feel comfortable doing them".
