The Panna Maria Grays was a Texas Confederate militia consisting of mostly Silesians that emigrated from Silesia. The Silesians tried to not be involved in the American Civil War, but they were eventually involved as the war endured. During the time of the Civil War, there were 1,500 Silesians in Texas. Some Silesians that served in Texas Silesian units include Peter Kiolbassa, R.T. Rzeppa, and Valentine Polack.
