Pat Welsh (born Patricia A. Carroll; February 11, 1915 – January 26, 1995) was an American film actress, known as the voice of E.T. in the 1982 film E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.

Career

Welsh only appeared in three films, most famously as the voice of E.T. in the 1982 film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. When Welsh was in a camera store, Ben Burtt, the sound designer of the film's character E.T., heard her talking and asked her to audition for the role. As a chain smoker, she had a raspy voice that gave E.T. his trademark speech sound.[1] She also had been hired by George Lucas to be the voice of Boushh in the film Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Lucas had said he was in the laundromat when he thought her ambiguous voice was perfect.[citation needed]
