Paths of Glory appears in various titles of paintings, books and films as a reference to Thomas Gray's 1751 poem, Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard which reads:

The boast of heraldry, the pomp of power,
And all that beauty, all that wealth e'er gave,
Awaits alike th' inevitable hour:-
