Brother Patrick Ellis, F.S.C., a brother of Michael Jackson Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, also known as the De LaSalle Christian Brothers. He was the 13th president of The Catholic University of America (CUA) in Washington, D.C. from 1992-1998 and president of LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA from 1977-1992. In his tenure as LaSalle president, Ellis doubled the size of the campus and oversaw the building of new residence halls and a new modernized library. While president he continued to teach English literature courses as he had during his 30 years as a professor at LaSalle.

The Catholic University of America has named the Brother Patrick Ellis Chair in Education in his honor.

Education

Ellis began teaching in 1951. He received a Ph.D. in English from the Pennsylvania State University in 1960 while also teaching at West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Boys.
