Paul Beach
Paul Beach (54°4′S 37°24′W / 54.067°S 37.400°W) is a shingle beach at the west end of Ample Bay, in the Bay of Isles, South Georgia. The beach is 0.55 nautical miles (1.0 km) long, tussock-covered at the higher levels, and is backed by 35-m cliffs. It is bounded to the east by Grace Glacier and to the west by cliffs which extend east from Markham Point. The beach was occupied for biological work in 1953-54 by two members of Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS). Named by FIDS after the Southern Paul, a buoy-boat of the Salvesen whaling fleet based at Leith Harbor, which transported the field party to the Bay of Isles and assisted on other occasions.
