Peggy Joan Maxie (born August 18, 1936) is an American former politician in the state of Washington. Maxie was the first African-American woman elected to the Washington House of Representatives, serving the 37th district from 1971 to 1983. An alumnus of Seattle University and the University of Washington, she holds Bachelor of Arts and Masters in Social Work degrees and has worked as a mental health therapist and counselor.[1][2][3]
