Jackson has covered eight gubernatorial campaigns (1978, 1982, 1986, 1990 and 1994 in Maine, and 1998, 2002, 2006 and 2010 in Pennsylvania). He helped cover national political conventions in San Francisco in 1984, Philadelphia in 2000 and Boston in 2004.

In 2005, he was named one of "Pennsylvania's Most Influential Reporters" by the Pennsylvania political news website PoliticsPA.[1] In 2006, Jackson edited a series of stories written by Mark Scolforo on Pennsylvania's state pension system that generated significant local interest.[2] He was named Pennsylvania AP Staffer of the Year in 2007.
