Peter Johannes Potgieter (1822 – 1854) was a South African Boer political figure. He served as the acting head of state of Zoutpansberg between 1852 and 1854. He was the first son of Andries Potgieter. He married Elsie Maria Aletta van Heerden whom married Pres.Stephanus Schoeman the second president of South-Africa after Pieter Johannes's death. He grew up in a high society lifestyle and became the starting point of one of South-Africa's most famous and high aristocratic families. Their daughter Elsie Maria Aletta married Ds. JHM Stofberg, secretary and head of the NG Church in South-Africa after ex Pres. Schoeman granted his blessing. They had two children of which one became a political figure through South-African Broederbond and member of the executive committee of the NP Dr. Pieter Johannes Potgieter Stofberg. Minister Hendrik Schoeman is related to the high society family.
