Plymouth, Connecticut
Plymouth is a town in Litchfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 11,634 at the 2000 census.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 57.8 km² (22.3 mi²). 56.3 km² (21.7 mi²) of it is land and 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²) of it (2.69%) is water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 11,634 people, 4,453 households, and 3,228 families residing in the town. The population density was 206.8/km² (535.6/mi²). There were 4,646 housing units at an average density of 82.6/km² (213.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.34% White, 0.78% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.97% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.26% of the population.
There were 4,453 households out of which 34.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.7% were married couples living together, 9.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.5% were non-families. 22.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.06.
In the town the population was spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 31.8% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.6 males.
