Point (ice hockey)

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Sdfisher (talk | contribs) at 23:18, 23 June 2006 (External link - NHL Rulebook, rule #57 ("Goals and Assists").). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Point in ice hockey has two meanings:

  • When it is given to individual hockey players, it refers to either a goal or assist a player earns during a game. The total number of goals plus assists equals total points.
  • When it is given to a team, it is usually given as two points for a win and none for a loss. In the National Hockey League, when a game advances to overtime, the losing team earns one point by default.
