Poovantanthoppe is the former name of Swamithope. This name was because the present-day Swamithoppe was then the grove of Poovandar a landlord. He was a devotee of Ayya Vaikundar and he donated the land to the Swamithoppe Pathi. Backing with some quotations in Akilattirattu Ammanai there is a strong belief that this poovandar was the one who warned the Kalineesan before he came to arrest Vaikundar.
