[edit]- 1916 – The Chicago Cubs send cash to the sinking Chicago Whales of the Federal League and bring back Three Finger Brown, Clem Clemens, Mickey Doolan, William Fischer, Max Flack, Claude Hendrix, Les Mann, Dykes Potter, Joe Tinker, Rollie Zeider and George McConnell.
- 1971 – Former player Bill White becomes the first black play-by-play broadcaster in major league history.
- 1975 – Former Negro Leagues player Judy Johnson wins election to the Hall of Fame.
- 2005 – Avoiding arbitration, pitcher Roy Oswalt and the Houston Astros agree to a two-year, $16.9 million deal.
