The R501 is a Regional Route in South Africa. It begins just west of the R28 in Gauteng province and initially runs east-west. The first town it comes to is Carletonville where it intersects with the R500. After exiting the town, it crosses into the North West, and gradually turns into a more southernly direction, to reach Potchefstroom to the south-west. In Potchefstroom, it is briefly co-signed with the R53 and crosses the N12. It leaves the city in a south-south-westerly direction, crossing the Vaal River into the Free State. It ends at an intersection with the R59 near Viljoenskroon.
