Robert Joseph "RJ" Scaringe (born January 19, 1983) is an American automotive engineer and entrepreneur. He is the founder and CEO of Rivian Automotive.[1] Scaringe earned his doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a focus on automotive engineering and lean manufacturing.[2][3]

Biography

Education

After graduating first in his class at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Scaringe obtained his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.[4] At MIT's Sloan Automotive Laboratory, Scaringe was a member of a research consortium that allowed him to collaborate with top engineers from several major auto companies. Through extensive research and by touring automotive manufacturing facilities worldwide, he identified a need for additional flexibility and efficiency in car manufacturing and engineering systems.[5]
