Rachel Shelley (born August 25, 1969) is an English actress and model.
Early life
Shelley was born in Swindon, England.[1] She was raised in London having moved from Swindon at the age of one. She graduated from Sheffield University with a B.A. Hons in English and Drama. Along with four friends from the university, she set up The Crowded Theatre in Sheffield, which ran for a year.
Career
Shelley is perhaps best known for playing Helena Peabody in the Showtime hit series The L Word. Among her many roles she played Elizabeth Russell in the Oscar nominated Bollywood film Lagaan in 2001, and the beauty whose tragic loss drives Charles Castle mad in the 1997 film Photographing Fairies. She is currently playing the recurring role of Superintendent Rippon in popular BBC medical drama Casualty.
Apart from acting, Shelley has written articles for The Guardian newspaper.
Personal life
Shelley currently lives in Notting Hill.
