The hill Kamaka, where the fortress was located

Rachovets was a fortress in Northern Bulgaria, located on the hill Kamaka. It is located close to the town of Gorna Oryahovitsa (2 km) and Veliko Tarnovo (5 km).

History

The fortress was built in the 3rd century during the reign of the Roman emperor Augustus III.[clarification needed] During the Second Bulgarian Empire, Rachovets was the main fortress for the protection of the capital Veliko Tarnovo.[1] Remains of the Thracians survive on the hill Kamaka.
