Ravindra Patil[1] was an Indian constable, bodyguard of Salman Khan,[2] who was the prime witness of the 2002 hit-and-run case of Salman Khan.[3] Patil filed the first information report (FIR) in the case. Patil was a passenger when Khan allegedly ran over five sleeping pedestrians, one of whom died from injuries.[4]

In January/February 2002, Salman filed a police report complaining about threatening calls from the underworld. The police appointed the then 24-25-year-old constable Ravindra Patil as Salman’s unarmed bodyguard.[5][6][7] Ravindra Patil died of tuberculosis in 2007.[8]

Crash

On September 28, 2002, Salman Khan was alleged to have rammed his Toyota Landcruiser onto the steps of A1 Bakery at the turning near Mehboob Studios in Bandra. Patil was sitting in the car. Patil confirmed in his statement that Salman was under the influence of alcohol when the incident took place.[9]

On Saturday 12 March 2006, Patil was arrested at Mahableshwar[10] for missing court sessions and sent to Arthur Road Jail.[11] A non-bailable warrant was issued against him.

He died in Sewri TB hospital on 4 October 2007, because of tuberculosis at around 30 years old.[12][13]
