Rhodope from Guillaume Rouillé's Promptuarii Iconum Insigniorum

In Greek mythology, Rhodope was a queen of Thrace and the wife of Haemus. Haemus was vain and haughty and compared himself and Rhodope to Zeus and Hera, who were offended and changed the couple into mountains (the Balkan mountains and Rhodope mountains, respectively). The story is mentioned by the Roman poet Ovid at Metamorphoses 6.87-89.
