Richard Hodgson (cricketer)

The Reverend Richard Greaves Hodgson (9 March 1845 – 1 November 1931) was an English first-class cricketer active 1871–74 who played for Kent and Lancashire. He was born in Manchester; died in Canterbury.[1]

Hodgson was born in Manchester, Lancashire on 9 March 1845 and educated at Manchester Grammar School and Christ Church, Oxford.[2] In 1868 with a mathematical training he joined the staff of The King's School, Canterbury later becoming second master from 1871-79.[2] He resigned from the Junior King's School in 1908 and was appointed Six Preacher at Canterbury Cathederal.[2]

Hodgson was an all-round athlete and played cricket for both Lancashire and Kent; he was a member of the Kent County Cricket Club Committee.[2]

Hodgson had married in 1880 to Mary Latter, he died at his home in Canterbury on 1 November 1931 aged 87.[2]
