Rodrigo Ābols (born 5 January 1996) is a Latvian ice hockey forward currently playing for Örebro HK of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). He is the son of Artis Ābols, who also played ice hockey and is currently the head coach of HC Lada Togliatti of the Kontinental Hockey League. Ābols was selected by the Vancouver Canucks 184th overall in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Playing career

Ābols began playing in minor and junior hockey in Sweden when his father played there. He joined Dinamo Riga junior club, HK Riga of MHL in 2013–14 season after he was drafted 143rd overall in the KHL Junior Draft by the club. He then played his first senior game for Dinamo Riga in the Kontinental Hockey League, coached by his father, on 27 December 2014 in an OT loss against rivals Dinamo Minsk.[1] In January 2015 Ābols registered his first KHL point with assist on a win against Torpedo and scored his first goal against on win against Severstal Cherepovets. After impressing at a few Young Stars Tournaments hosted by the Vancouver Canucks, Ābols was selected 184th overall by the Canucks, in the 7th round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft

International play

Ābols participated at the 2013 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships as a member of the Latvian national junior team. He made his senior international debut at the 2015 IIHF World Championships in Prague.
