Andrew "Roo" Panes (born 8 June 1988) is an English singer-songwriter. He gained a wide audience after participating in a campaign for Burberry. This included recording music for Burberry Acoustic and modelling. He has released three EPs: Once (2012), Weight of Your World (2012), and Land of the Living (2013). His début LP Little Giant was released in Autumn 2014, with the leading single Tiger Striped Sky previously released on 23 June.

Early life

Panes was born in Wimborne, Dorset, England as Andrew Panes. After falling into a river as a child, he received the nickname 'Roo' in homage to a Winnie-the-Pooh character who met a similar fate while playing a game called pooh sticks. He credits his grandmother, a classical pianist, and other family members with inspiring him to pursue music. Before playing acoustic guitar and writing songs, he briefly studied the trumpet and electric guitar. Other members of his family are similarly talented; his twin, Deborah, is a professional photographer, while sister Lucy provides artwork for his EPs.

Playing Style

Panes plays a 12-string acoustic guitar. Introspective lyrics and a band of string-players contribute to a genre of classical folk.
