What does this hospital do? Rouge Valley Health System (RVHS) offers services that you would expect of a community hospital, including 24/7/365 emergency, cardiac care, mental health, surgery, cancer care and more.

Rouge Valley has several health locations - the main ones being its two hospital sites:

  • Rouge Valley Centenary, at Ellesmere and Neilson, Toronto; and
  • Rouge Valley Ajax and Pickering, at 580 Harwood, Ajax.

It has about 550 doctors practicing at both hospital sites, 1,000 nurses and many other professionals. Rouge Valley is part of the provincial government's Central East Local Health Integration Network (CE LHIN).

The hospital's cardiac care program, Rouge Valley Cardiology, was given regional care designation by the CE LHIN in 2009, meaning the hospital offers specialized care for people with heart-related problems living in east Toronto and west Durham.

Rouge Valley was created in 1998 by the Ontario government's amalgamation of hospitals, as was done with school boards at the time.
