The Royal Glamorgan Hospital (Welsh: Ysbyty Brenhinol Morgannwg), is a District General Hospital in Ynysmaerdy, Talbot Green, near Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales.[1] The Hospital is operated and maintained by Cwm Taf University Health Board and has around 570 beds.[2]

Built beside Ely Valley Road – about three miles (5 km) north of Junction 34 (Llantrisant, Rhondda, A4119) of the M4 motorway – on what was known as ' Gwaun Elai ' (English: Ely Meadow), the Royal Glamorgan Hospital opened in 2000 as a replacement for the ageing World War Two hospital, East Glamorgan General Hospital that was located in Church Village, near Pontypridd.

The River Ely flows through the hospital grounds.

Services

The Hospital provides a comprehensive range of in-patient, day case and outpatient facilities together with Accident and Emergency and Diagnostic facilities. There are also nine Operating Theatres. State of the art facilities are provided within the Radiology Department and the hospital is close to being filmless with digital images and reports available to clinicians across the site.

The hospital's Accident & Emergency department is no longer consultant lead due to a restructure of Accident & Emergency functionality along the M4 Corridor.

The Special Care Baby Unit will be moved to Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil in a multimillion-pound[3] refurbishment of services.
