St. Philip the Apostle Russian Orthodox Church is a Russian Orthodox Church located in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The church is the biggest church in the country, with an area of 1,800 square metres (19,000 sq ft)[1] capacity of 20,000 worshippers. The church opened its doors on Saturday August 13, 2011.

Background

Discussions on building the church first started in 2005. The church was given the go-ahead to start construction in May 2007. The church is the biggest in the United Arab Emirates. It was built with the financial help of Ukrainian businessmen living in the UAE as well as donations from the parish's members.
