Rutland Regional Medical Center (Rutland Regional) is the second largest hospital and the largest community hospital in Vermont, located in Rutland,VT and providing high quality healthcare to the Rutland Region for more than 100 years.
Rutland Regional is licensed for 144 beds and employs 1,600 professional and support staff, including 227 physicians trained in 36 specialty areas. Providing preventive, diagnostic, acute and rehabilitative services, Rutland Regional serves Rutland County, portions of Southern and Central Vermont and communities in Eastern New York State. Rutland Regional is designated a Sole Community Provider by Medicare. Rutland has also been designated a Rural Referral Center by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Rutland is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and is licensed by the State of Vermont.
The hospital’s medical staff is supported by excellent nurses, high quality diagnostic and ancillary services and a broad array of sophisticated equipment technology, including advanced diagnostic imaging, atop-of-the-line linear accelerator used in the treatment of cancer patients, and a diagnostic Cardiovascular and Angiographic Lab.
Hospital services include a collaborative system of health care providers offering education, primary care, outpatient acute care, rehabilitation and assisted living housing.

- 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® from The Joint Commission - Rutland Regional was one of only two hospitals in Vermont and one of only 1,224 hospitals in the United States to achieve the distinction as a 2013 Top Performer.
- "A" Rating in Hospital Safety Scores from The Leapfrog Group - In Fall 2014, Rutland Regional Medical Center was one of 790 hospitals out of 2,520 to receive an "A" rating in hospital safety from Leapfrog, an independent, national nonprofit organization that advocates for patient safety nationwide. In Vermont, Rutland Regional was the only hospital to receive this designation.
- Magnet Designation - In April 2010 Rutland Regional earned Magnet® designation for excellence in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program. A highly selective program, only five percent of hospitals nationwide have been granted Magnet status, one of the highest achievements an organization can obtain in professional nursing.
- Governor’s Award for Performance Excellence - In May 2010, Rutland Regional Medical Center received the Governor’s Award for Performance Excellence. The Governor’s Award, based upon the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence, calls for an organized and integrated approach to organization excellence.
- A Blue Distinction Center for Total Hip and Total Knee Joint Replacement - Rutland Regional’s Vermont Orthopaedic Clinic has been named a Blue Distinction Center for Total Hip and Total Knee Joint Replacement by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont.
History
1892 - The Rutland Hospital Association, the second hospital in Vermont, is incorporated on November 27, 1892.
1896 - Rutland Hospital officially opens on September 6, 1896 with four physicians coordinated medical care and ten beds.
1956 - Groundbreaking begins on a new, four-story, 155-bed hospital at the Chaffee Farm, located on Allen St. The building is dedicated on September 20, 1958.
1983 - The hospital’s changes its name to Rutland Regional Medical Center.
1989 - The Rutland East is completed at a cost of $10 million. The addition now houses outpatient services, including the Foley Cancer Center.
Today - Rutland Regional Medical Center is Vermont’s second-largest health care facility, with over 1,600 employees and 227 providers trained in 36 specialty areas.
