Dr. Safiatou Thiam is a doctor of public health in Senegal, a specialist in HIV/AIDS, and former Minister of Health and Disease Prevention in the government of Cheikh Hadjibou Soumaré.Today, she is Executive Secretary of CNLS National Council against AIDS

Biography

After gaining her doctorate degree in Public Health 1995 at Université Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, with a thesis titled Le SIDA en milieu chirurgical : Connaissances, attitudes et pratiques (in English: AIDS in the surgical arena: Knowledge, attitudes and practises), she completed a Master of Science degree at the Institut de médecine tropicale d'Anvers in 1997. She has also completed many specialist diplomas in Dakar and in France, as well as a DEA in Santé publique et pays en développement (in English: Public Health and Developing Countries) at l'Université Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI) in 2001.

At the heart of the Conseil national de la lutte contre le Sida (CNLS) (in English: National Council for the Fight Against AIDS), she directs the programs of the Fonds mondial de lutte contre cette pandémie. In 2007 she was recruited as the coordinator of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS program in Senegal. In the National Council of the fight against AIDS (CNLS ), it supports programs the Global Fund to fight against this pandemic. In 2007 she was hired as coordinator of UNAIDS in Senegal.

September 13, 2007, at the age of 44 years1, Dr. Safiatou Thiam was appointed Minister of Health and Prevention. She succeeds Abdou Fall, after a brief interlude Issa Mbaye Samb Dr., pharmacist, and multiple revisions to the head of the Ministry of Health since the accession to power of President Abdoulaye Wade 20002. Thérèse Coumba Diop succeeded him in May 2009.

On September 13, 2007, at age 44,[1] Dr. Safiatou Thiam was named Minister of Health and Disease Prevention. She succeeded Abdou Fall, after a brief term under Dr. Issa Mbaye Samb, pharmacist, and multiple changes at the head of the Ministry of Health since the coming to power of President Abdoulaye Wade in 2000.[2] Thérèse Coumba Diop succeeded her in May 2009.
