Dionysis "Sakis" Giannakopoulos (alternate spelling: Dionysios) (Greek: Διονύσης "Σάκης" Γιαννακόπουλος; born on October 24, 1982 in Kalamata, Greece) is a Greek professional basketball player. He is 6'4¾" (1.95 m) tall.[1] He mainly plays as a shooting guard, but he can also play as a small forward. He currently plays with Lavrio of the Greek League.
Professional career
Giannakopoulos played amateur basketball for Poseidonas Kalamatas until 2004, when he started his pro career. In 2004, he signed with Lavrio.[2] He is the long-time captain of Lavrio. Giannakopoulos has played in over 150 games with Lavrio, and he is the record holder of the club.[3] He was voted the Greek 2nd Division MVP in 2011.
Greek national team
Giannakopoulos was a member of the junior national teams of Greece. With Greece's junior national team, he played at the 2000 FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship, where he won a bronze medal.[4]
