Shandilya

Shandilya is one of the Brahmin gotras,^[1] named after the rishi Sandilya,^[2] specifying that individuals of the gotra have Shandilya as one of their patrilineal ancestors. The Shandilya's are held to have constituted one of the three prominent families of Kanyakubja Brahmins.^[3]

The Pravaras, or lineages, of the Saṇḍilya gotra are:

Kasyapa, Divala, Asita^[4]
Kasyapa, Avatsara, Nidruva, Rebha, Raibha, Shandila, Shandilya^[4]
