Saoirse Ronan (Template:PronEng[3]; born April 12 1994) is an Academy Award-, Golden Globe- and BAFTA-nominated Irish actress. She has four films scheduled for release in 2008.[4]
Biography
Career
Ronan got her start on multiple episodes of two Irish television series, The Clinic (as Rhiannon Geraghty) and Proof (as Orla Boland, a role that she took over from Emma Bolger, who played Orla in the first season), from 2003-2005. Her first major motion picture appearance to be filmed was in the movie Death Defying Acts, although its release has been delayed until 2008. She appears in starring roles in the films Atonement for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and The Lovely Bones. She recently signed on at CAA.[5]
Personal life
Ronan was born in New York City, New York,[2] the daughter of Irish parents Monica and Paul Ronan, the latter an actor, and was raised in Ireland. As a child, she sometimes accompanied her father on the set when he worked on films such as The Devil's Own and Veronica Guerin. She currently attends school in Ardattin, Ireland[6] and lives in County Carlow.[4] Ronan has a border collie named Sassy; she says she misses her dog the most when away filming.[7]
