Sarriko is a station of line 1 and line 2 of Metro Bilbao. The station is located in the neighbourhood of Ibarrekolanda, part of the Deustu district. It is named after the Sarriko park located nearby. The station is in close proximity to the Faculty of Business and Economic Sciences of the University of the Basque Country as well as the Conservatory of music. It was opened on 11 November, 1995.
Unlike the other underground stations within the city, Sarriko does not follow the typical cavern-shaped layout, but it is instead made up of a big single space, with a big crystal shelter allowing for natural sun light. It was designed by Norman Foster, with a main hall located suspended directly above the rail tracks. In 1998 it was awarded the Brunel Award to railway infrastructures.
The station is served by Line 1 to Etxebarri, Bidezabal and Plentzia and Line 2 to Basauri and Santurtzi. There are trains to San Inazio every two minutes, as both lines run in the same direction, trains from line 2 to Santurtzi and Bidezabal every five minutes and to Plentzia every twenty minutes. There are extended services on weekends. Passengers looking to interchange from line 1 to line 2 or vice versa may do it in this station.
